About the Team
Nova Commissioning Services Limited (Nova) has extensive experience in building system commissioning activities, as well as coordination of the entire commissioning process. Nova has been involved in over 325 projects since its formation in 1999, ranging in size from small fit-ups to the $863 million rehabilitation of West Block (one of Canada’s Parliament Buildings). Most projects have been in Eastern Ontario and the National Capital Region, some of which have been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
Nova is employee owned and operated and located in Akwesasne, Ontario, which is approximately 100 km southeast of Ottawa. With the dedicated work and reputation of its employees, Nova has established a strong reputation in Eastern Ontario and the National Capital Region of delivering successful projects through the experience and knowledge of their staff, high level of detail of system investigation and verification, and thoroughness. Nova struggles with being the successful proponent when the project will be awarded to the lowest bidder due to the level of rigor executed, which is established by Nova’s internal workmanship standards.
Projects in which Nova is the successful proponent are awarded through preferred bidding lists or clients sole sourcing their services due to reputation.
Nova has been a member of the Building Commissioning Association (BCxA) and the Canada Green Building Council since 1999 and 2011, respectively. When allowed, commissioning processes are based on best practices established by the BCxA as they have well established commissioning protocols and offer the most support for continuing education in comparison to their counterparts. Nova also delivers projects following the CSA Z320 Building Commissioning standard and the ASHRAE commissioning standard and guidelines to suite project requirements.
Indigenous Association
Nova is majority-owned by an indigenous individual, who is also an active employee in the business. The head office is located on the Ontario portion of Akwesasne 59 Indian Reserve.
From the commissioning plan to the commissioning schedule to the final verification Nova Commissioning has the expertise to see the project through.
Philosophy
Nova has believed in the proper, methodical, documented verification of building systems for the last 22 years. Services offered are strictly for commissioning only. As a company, we do not offer any other services and prioritize the ongoing realized benefits to the owner. This allows us to focus strictly on testing and verification without distraction or influence by other involved departments and their project budgets. Our goal is to provide quality assurance in design and construction though a third-party approach. Nova is one of the few firms remaining in Eastern Ontario that solely provides commissioning.
Team
Nova currently employs two individuals on a full-time basis who are members of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). Nova has also maintained a working relationship with one of its previous General Managers, who is hired on a contract basis from time to time should the need arise
